Trait Writers Professional Services

  1. Overview of Trait Writing: Basic session focusing on the research, the approach we use, the alignment with student standards, and a brief look at the key features of the 6+1 Trait Model of Instruction and Assessment. (Best for school boards, principals and curriculum supervisors, parent and community groups; designed to fit your time frame) 
  2. Introduction to Trait Writing: Training for educators to enable them to begin implementing the model for instruction and assessment in their classrooms. (Site-based ELA teachers, academic coaches, literacy leaders, librarians/media specialists, ELA support staff; two 5-6 hour sessions recommended)
  3. Advanced Trait Writing Implementation: Sessions are custom-designed and   focus on specific skills and strategies including author's crafts, mini-lessons; assessment practices, streamlining the writing process, genre specific assignments, bell ringers and tickets out the door for writing, cross-content knowledge building through writing, developing and writing to prompts in all subject areas, "tweaking" current trait teaching practices, and many more. (Site-based ELA teachers, academic coaches, literacy leaders, librarians/media specialists, ELA support staff; 2-3 hour or 5-6 hour sessions; great for follow-up learning)
  4. Planning With the End in Mind; Create a one-year working plan framework with plans for years 2 and 3 in draft form, awaiting yearly data and appropriate modifications (Literacy leaders and coaches, administrative team members, teacher representatives, SIP members, and others; hours vary by need.)
  5. Build Your Site-Based Resources: Collaboration with experts at Trait Writers who will benchmark your selected student papers, providing scores with feedback to guide student growth and strengthen both vertical and horizontal alignment; all papers are blind-scored/no names. (Administration, academic and literacy coaches; depends on volume of papers requested)
  6. Coaching and Literacy Leaders Support: From planning and organization to tricks of the trade to help teachers including how to use a walkthrough process to build teacher trust and confidence. (Administration, academic and literacy coaches; 2-3 hour or 5-6 hour sessions; great for follow-up to implementation)
